What you will learn

Practice this visual check: Compare the two ear roots across the head. Keep the front legs centered and the rear paw pads visible on either side.

Shapes and proportions

Draw a broad rounded head with a small tuft, then place an oval muzzle low inside it. Put the round eyes above the muzzle and cheeks beside it. Hang two long ears outside the head. Add the collar and bone tag, two front legs, and rear paws spread to either side; finish with the small tail.

A common mistake

Ears starting at different heights or rear paws squeezed behind the front legs weaken the balanced seated pose.

How to fix it

Compare the two ear roots across the head. Keep the front legs centered and the rear paw pads visible on either side.

Hang two long ears outside the head.

    Choose colors for each part

Use cream tan for the head, body and legs, warm brown for both ears, pale cream for the muzzle and bone tag, pink for cheeks, tongue and paired paw pads, and coral red for the collar. Apply color lightly, keep the outline visible, and use the same color for matching parts.
