What you will learn
Practice this visual check: Center the smaller head above the larger body. Keep the scarf in front of the body, then place the twig arms at the sides and compare the mitten sizes.
Shapes and proportions
Stack a slightly wobbly small head circle above a larger body circle. Compare their widths and keep their centers aligned. Place upright oval eyes, a carrot nose and a curved smile inside the head, then add two body buttons. Tilt the hat over the crown, wrap a scarf around the neck with its ends draped down one side, and attach matching mittens to the twig arms. Rounded snowballs, a smile and matching mittens create a cozy winter character.
A common mistake
Misaligned snowballs or scarf ends passing through the arms makes the snowman look unstable.
How to fix it
Center the smaller head above the larger body. Keep the scarf in front of the body, then place the twig arms at the sides and compare the mitten sizes.

Choose a consistent crayon palette
Use warm white for snowballs, hat brim and pompom, berry red for the hat, red and cream scarf bands, matching green mittens, an orange nose, pink cheeks, brown twigs and buttons and charcoal eyes. Apply light pressure so the contour stays readable.
